How to Grow Red Onions

So one day I noticed this.

It all started a few months ago with a sprout. A sprout that made me feel wasteful and guilty.

So I decided to plant my onion. I carved away all of the outer layers until I got down to the bulbs.

There we have it.

I planted them in a zone I have saved for these, green onions, and garlic. In hindsight, I would separate the bulbs & space them when planting.

Today I remembered my red onion plant so I pulled it out of the garden.

She had about 6 onions trying to grow and more tiny sprouts which I’ll plant again. The beauties of bulbs are that they multiply and they come back every year.

You can do the same thing with unused garlic that dries out before you use it, potatoes that grow sprouts, and the ends of green onions. I’m no gardener so I appreciate the simplicity of being able to plant these beauties in pots all around my deck and thought you might too.
